Languages that are "Secretly" The Same Language

The borders are approximates based on national divisions. Mapping language is impossible to do perfectly, but I hope I have done a good job. If you see any subdivisions you believe have a different linguistic composition than reflected on the map, or any inconsistencies, please let me know.

I am also curious to see any opinions on these secret languages. If you do not agree with the map please tell me why and how. This map is based on asking native speakers how they feel about the situation.

African Countries with Majority L1 Languages

I have been wondering for a while what language one would have to learn to thrive in Africa. The answer is often English or French, yet looking up any African country often reveals tens or hundreds of languages being spoken, often none claiming a majority. To understand the situation better I made this map showing countries in Subsaharan Africa where there is a majority L1 spoken language, and which they are. I think I will make another map sooner or later about Lingua Francas in Africa.

This map I made waaaay faster, but it was still a pain in the ass. I am not sure if I liked the outcome... A lot of lines, it looks very busy. I did learn a lot from making it though! Comoros and Mauritius seem like awesome countries. Mauritius is an Africa Island nation consisting of Indians with afros who speak French.

My First Map

I have for a long time been interested in mapmaking, but the maps I made never exceeded plotting random colours into countries and playing around. A few days ago I got the idea to show all the languages with the same amount of native speakers as my own mother tongue, Norwegian. This sparked learning how to use QGIS and when I was done making the map I felt like it deserved to be displayed rather than be forgotten in some folder on my computer. So, here is my first map.
