Provinces of Iran with HDI Over 0.8

Iran is at the crossroads between rich and poor... In my opinion. How you define rich and poor varies widely, not to mention the issues with the HDI. Nevertheless, I think this paints an informative picture for the Iranian situation. This map was created together with the global version.

The First, Second, and Third Largest Immigrant Groups in Norway by Fylke (Province)

Norway is pretty diverse. Here is a map collection of Norway's biggest immigrant groups by province (fylke).

Sources:
My sources are primarily SSB 2018 (the Norwegian bureau of statistics), with the exception of Svalbard which has data from 2016. Data for Svalbard only includes Norwegian settlements. Poland and Russia both have territories on the islands, and if they were to be included the largest minorities would be Russian, thereafter Polish.

For clarification, these are maps showing the total amount of people with an immigrant background who have stayed in Norway over a long period of time.

A Silly Map of How I See the Americas

The Americas is a continent filled with stereotypes. Here are those that come to mind when I think of the not so old world.

A Silly Map of How I See Africa

What do you see when you look at the world map? How do you remember the countries if you close your eyes and try to remember them? Your own country and its neighbours are most likely very clear in your inner world, other places too, like Japan, the UK, the US, Western Europe. If you like geography perhaps you know the location of the Ural mountains, maybe you can point to Singapore or Lake Victoria. What the fewest of us can do is picture an accurate map of Africa, perhaps unless you are actually from Africa.

When I close my eyes this is what I see, with some humorous tweaks.

African Countries with Majority L1 Languages

I have been wondering for a while what language one would have to learn to thrive in Africa. The answer is often English or French, yet looking up any African country often reveals tens or hundreds of languages being spoken, often none claiming a majority. To understand the situation better I made this map showing countries in Subsaharan Africa where there is a majority L1 spoken language, and which they are. I think I will make another map sooner or later about Lingua Francas in Africa.

This map I made waaaay faster, but it was still a pain in the ass. I am not sure if I liked the outcome... A lot of lines, it looks very busy. I did learn a lot from making it though! Comoros and Mauritius seem like awesome countries. Mauritius is an Africa Island nation consisting of Indians with afros who speak French.
